The Ragdoll cat breed is a hybrid cat developed in the early 1960's by the late Ann Baker of southern California. Ragdolls are born completely white or cream color. Their eyes begin to open between 7 and10 days to reveal their blue eyes that remain blue even as adults. Their color points start to come in 5 to 10 days of age. The coloration will slowly fill in and darken over the next couple of years. The body had a definite contrast to the color points. The chest, bib or ruff and chin area's are usually lighter in color than the tail, legs, ears and face. Ragdolls have large boned, heavy bodies with the males weighing between 12 to 20 lbs when full grown, the neutered males are the heaviest. Females usually weigh about 5 lbs less. Ragdolls are named for their laid back personality and ability to relax so completly they feel just like a Raggady Ann doll.
ColorpointsRagdolls come in several colorpoints and patterns. The traditional colors are Seal, Blue, Chocolate and Lilac. The newer colorpoints are Red, Cream, Tortie, Torbie and Lynx. Their nose leather can be seal, blue, lavender or light pink this is determined by the colorpoint pattern and color. Patterns The traditional patterns was solid color points but now other patterns are accepted. Such patterns are Lynx (tabby markings in the colorpoints), Bicolor (inverted "V" of white on face and high mitts on all 4 legs), Mitted (mitts on front paws and back stockings can go up to the hocks). Torbies and Torties are new blends of colors within their colorpoints.
